What this guide is for
Fire & Smoke Guide explains the decisions behind a good outdoor meal: where to put the heat, which fuel to use, when to turn the food, and how to bring everything to the table. It is an editorial resource, not a restaurant, equipment shop, or cooking certification service.
We write for first-time grillers and home cooks building confidence with their own equipment. A useful guide should help you recognize what is happening and adjust your method, rather than promise that one cooking time will work on every grill.
Find your starting point
The site has seven sections. Each leads to focused categories and individual guides, so you can follow a learning path or go straight to the question in front of you.
- Start Here: first-time grilling, choosing a setup, and the fundamentals of backyard barbecue.
- Grilling Basics: lighting, heat zones, temperature control, and practical fire management.
- Recipes: approaches to fish, chicken, steak, burgers, ribs, and other grill staples.
- Smoking: low-and-slow cooking, fuel decisions, and managing a longer cook.
- Rubs, Sauces & Sides: seasoning, balancing flavors, and planning the food around the main dish.
- Outdoor Cooking: meal planning, serving, and handling food away from the kitchen.
- Global Barbecue: an introduction to regional methods and traditions, without treating one home adaptation as the definitive version.
Who is behind the site
Andy is the site's named author and participates in writing, editing, or reviewing its guides. The editorial focus is practical explanation: making barbecue, grilling, and live-fire cooking easier to understand.
Author attribution is not a claim of professional chef, medical, or fire-safety credentials. We do not present an article as personally tested unless that article specifically documents the testing.
Sources, judgment, and corrections
Our editorial approach is to explain the method, identify where conditions can change the result, and connect readers with relevant supporting information. Safety-critical statements should be checked against current public food-safety guidance and the instructions for the equipment being used.
A source link supports the point it addresses; it is not an endorsement of the whole article by that organization. Regional cooking traditions also have variations that a short home-cooking guide cannot fully represent.
If you find an error, send the page URL, the passage concerned, and a reliable source or explanation to rolelife@126.com. Reports help us identify material that needs correction. Published and updated dates identify article versions; they are not proof of a new cooking test.
How to read our illustrations
The current natural-light editorial image collection is AI-generated. These images illustrate ingredients, serving ideas, and cooking contexts; they are not photographs documenting a recipe test, an author's kitchen, or a particular restaurant.
Image captions identify generated illustrations. Do not infer a safe temperature, cooking time, equipment setup, or finished result from an image alone. Follow the written guidance and appropriate safety checks.
A useful guide has limits
Outdoor cooking depends on equipment, weather, ingredients, food handling, and experience. Our content cannot assess your circumstances or replace manufacturer instructions, local fire restrictions, current food-safety guidance, or professional advice.
Take particular care with allergies, cross-contamination, fuel storage, ventilation, and safe internal temperatures. In an emergency, contact the appropriate local emergency service rather than this website.
